First Rpilocator/Dphacks Giveaway – June 2023

Winner Announcement

If you go by lbk and you wrote the comment below, check your inbox/spam folder. Thanks!

(Sign-ups are closed!!!)

Hello, Hello!

Let’s keep things simple. This is a giveaway for a Raspberry Pi 4B 8GB RAM and a Raspberry Pi Camera Module (V3). The winner will receive both items at home, free of charge. Both the Pi 4B and the camera are brand new in the box and never opened.

The Rules

Post a comment below AND check the box to subscribe to my newsletter. When adding a comment, tell me how you would like to use the Pi 4B 8GB and the camera. This is just so your comment doesn’t get flagged as spam; the winner will be selected randomly independent of the content of the comment.

One entry per person. Please don’t get all smart pants on me and enter multiple emails. This will disqualify you from the giveaway.

More Details

I will send the goods to the winner anywhere in the world free of charge. Keep in mind that you might be responsible for duties and taxes when the product arrives in your country (if outside the US). It is your responsibility to pay for local taxes and fees.

If you post a comment and it doesn’t show up right away, please don’t add another one. Comments can get stuck in moderation and I have to approve them individually. Don’t worry, I’ll go through all the comments stuck in moderation and spam filter before picking the winner.

The comment section will remain open for 3 days. The giveaway will close on Tuesday, June 6th 2023 @ 8pm Central Time (or thereabouts).

Hateful speech, foul language, or any other dickery will disqualify you from the giveaway.

Who’s Sponsoring This?

This giveaway is sponsored by me, I bought these items with my own money and I’m deciding to give them to a friend in the community in return for the support that rpilocator has received during the Pi shortage.

“But it says rpilocator in the title, are they sponsoring it?”, you might wonder. I created rpilocator.com.

Picking the Winner

After the comments section in the post closes, I will delete all duplicates, approve any pending comments, and I’ll head to random.org to pick a winner. If the winner is not signed up for my newsletter, I will pick another winner. You are free to unsubscribe to my newsletter after the winner is declared – I’ll post the winner here.

I will contact the winner through the email entered in the comment. If the winner does not reply in 5 days, I will pick another winner.

Newsletter Details

To be quite honest, I don’t even have a newsletter 🙂 but I figured I would start one! The newsletter will most likely be in the style of one of my SBC Week in Review posts (example) and I’ll probably include projects I’m working on, like the CM4 Ether Board. I will never (ever!) use your email for spamming. The newsletter will only contain maker/Raspberry Pi/SBC content.

Beginning of May, my dad started renovating the house and I wanted to try home automation. I couldnt start researching right away since I was in the middle of my final exam. Now that i graduated from highschool from IT, I started researching about home automation and in the process of researching I found more information about Network Security and using pihole/pfsense. I was learning about network in school but it didn’t intrigue me that much. Now when I’m researching about it it’s a lot more interesting than I thought. I wanted to order one on makerbright, but I was worried since the reviews weren’t that great. Next day I wanted to order it through paypal, but it was out of stock (ordering through cousin since I don’t have paypal). The next day it was in stock again, but I couldn’t contact my cousin so when he contacted me the next day it was out of stock again. I hope I can win this so I can continue the path to the dark side of home automation and rule the household *sorry been watching too many videos from Smart Home Solver 😂😂

  1136. James Pilgrim says:

First, thank you for creating rpilocator. I’ve come really close to getting one in the last couple weeks.

I’m working on a real-time golf launch monitor that will use openCV to identify the direction and spin of a hit golf ball in 3D and then send that information to a golf simulator. I have the machine vision portion working accurately on a windows PC, but have struggled to get an Rpi 4 to work on the camera timing/strobing to get ‘real’ pictures. Am just simulating the pictures for now. Have an old. Rpi 1 with 500M memory, but even with z-swap it still can’t compile half the packages I am using. :/ I’d pull the IR filter from the PiCam 3 and use a high-power set of IR LEDs to freeze a couple frames of the moving golf ball.

  1137. Kat says:

I am working on creating a 1/3 scale doll with a working “tv” for a face (think Canti from FLCL) that would be able to run RetroPi and maybe a video looper. A raspberry pi would go a long way towards that project.

  1138. Rahul says:

I plan to build a 3D printed robotic arm with a camera to be used in a clean box for chemical synthesis involving toxic materials. Initially the camera will be for remote monitoring and control. Eventually I plan to incorporate machine vision to automate repetitive tasks. I already have a 4 pi cluster up and running for distributes computation tasks, a pi router, pi home security and kodi media station. Another project in the pipeline is an ultra high precision and low flow rate syringe pump for biomedical applications.

  1139. Dave says:

I intend to use it to for a 3d printer

  1140. Ken Eitenmiller says:

Need pihole or two, home assistant host, ads-b, etc… not sure about the camera

  1145. Ali says:

I’d use the Pi for Home Assistant.

  1146. Craig says:

So many things to consider . . . but would start with Octopi for the other printer or smart bird feeder . . .

  1147. Josh says:

My nieces boyfriend initially helped me get into 3D printing/modeling and he let me borrow his Ender 3 v2 that he had a Pi hooked up to running Klipper and I would LOVE to get it running with my Ender 3 Max NEO I bought back before Christmas, but haven’t gotten my hands on a Pi yet. I would probably set the Pi 4B up as a security cam with the camera module. Seems like it’d be discreet to (maybe) place up against a window haha.

  1162. Randal Hansen says:

    Want to build a Picade

  1163. Michael Fink says:

Nothing too elaborate for me. Setting up a terminal for basic home use. The camera would allow for video conferencing. I appreciate the work you put into making this site happen. If I don’t win I hope I can purchase a pi 4 at retail someday. I have been watching for a few weeks now and still have not had a USA hit, but tracking the misses gives me hope. This and seeing the scalper prices come down, gives me hope that the drought is coming to an end.

  1164. Charles says:

Would use to upgrade my home IOT hub, which is based on a RPI!

  1165. Thomas Debenedictis says:

I would use the pi4 to make myself a proper NAS setup…..Ty for the opportunity!

1166. This is my entry to the contest! If selected, I’d use the pi and camera to build a timelapse camera for my 3d printer.

  1167. William Rivas says:

The main use I have for the pi 4b 8gb ram is making a drone FROM SCRATCH, I’ve already started prototyping on the pi pico w using the mpu6050, some 10k smd resistors, smd buttons, zener 1n4148 smd diodes, the pico, still need to get a lipo battery but well get to it when it comes down, just waiting on the si2302 n channel misfit and ITS TIME FOR THE DRONE :DD. its been a fun journey.

  1168. Christina says:
