SBC Week in Review – February 5th, 2023

The review of the week is a collection of tidbits I have found around the web related to SBCs and electronics. I figured I would curate a list of things that other like-minded electronics enthusiasts would be interested in.

Slim pickings this week, so this one will be a short one. I guess not a whole lot happened in the world of single board computers.

DPHacks Posts of the Week

Sorry, no posts this week, but I have some coming soon. I’ve been using a couple of Radxa Rock SBCs (Rock CM3 and Rock 5B) and I’ll have lots of information to share.

Raspberry Pi Availability

What can I say, the shortage is still taking a major hit on Raspberry Pi availability to the general market. rpilocator.com reported a few Pi 3A+ coming in stock throughout the week and we also saw a few Zero W’s popping up. Pi-Shop, in Switzerland, had some CM4’s in stock – now, that was a welcome surprise.

Adafruit released a few drops of Pi 4 8GB, so that was a surprise! We hadn’t seen 8GB available outside of a kit for months. Pimoroni also had Pi 4 8GB computers but they were only offering it as part of a kit with a UK power source. Kits are not great if all you want is a single board but vendors are resorting to selling kits to combat the secondary market (read scalpers).

I can’t stress enough how Adafruit has been a great resource in these tough times for Pi lovers. Adafruit is releasing stock almost daily, but unfortunately stock sells out in a matter of a couple of minutes. So, keep an eye out for more drops from Adafruit next week.

In the Queue

I have here with me a selection of boards from Libre Computer and Radxa. I’m spending some time with the boards before writing an article so I can get to know them better. Here are the boards coming to the site, in no particular order:

  • Libre Computer Renegade
  • Radxa Rock 5B
  • Radxa Rock 4 SE
  • Radxa Rock 4C+
  • Radxa Rock CM3

Thanks for reading and that is it for this week. Hopefully more exciting news this coming week.
